Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology required.
  • ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine required.

Job Summary

The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.

Essential Functions

  1. Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient, referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist before performing exams.
  2. Properly identifies patients using two patient identifiers and assists them while offering a brief explanation of the procedures.
  3. Interviews patients for a complete medical history and records it on requisitions.
  4. Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion.
  5. Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols.
  6. Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed.
  7. Performs basic patient care functions and informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition.
  8. Performs CT scanning and assists Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures.
  9. Practices principles of radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family members.
  10. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor.
  11. Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.
  12. Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures.
  13. Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies.
  14. Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the day.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology required. ARRT certification in Radiology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and advanced registry from the ARRT in CT scanning within one year of hire required in addition to current CPR certification.
