UPMC Hanover is seeking a CT Technologist for the weekend program to support the CAT Scanner at UPMC Hanover. The role requires 6 months of experience and entails rotating holidays, on-call shifts, and a heavy weekend schedule.

The selected candidate will perform CT imaging, manage contrast administration, ensure proper coding in RIS, and maintain protocol standards while communicating clearly with patients and collaborating with the care team.

Qualifications

  • ARRT certified as Radiologic Technologist or CNMT program certification required.
  • CT Board Certification within 18 months of hire date.
  • CPR/BLS certification required per AHA standards.
  • Acts 31/33/34 clearances renewal as applicable.
  • FBI clearance renewal as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs CT procedures using established scan protocols, including contrast administration.
  • Operates imaging equipment for acquisition, analysis, reconstruction, and documentation of image data.
  • Ensures exams are properly coded in RIS and archived in ISITE; verifies charges.
  • Administers PO, rectal, and IV contrast per physician orders; assesses risk factors.
  • Communicates procedures clearly to patients to alleviate fears and obtain cooperation.
  • Adapts protocols when needed to maintain optimal diagnostic quality.
  • Maintains teamwork and coordinates with department staff for efficient patient care.
  • Identifies patients with two identifiers and follows universal protocol during procedures.

Job description

UPMC is seeking a CT Technologist to support the CAT Scanner at UPMC Hanover

Location: UMPC Hanover

Employment Type: Weekend Program

Schedule: Saturday and Sunday 12-hour Dayshift. Rotating Holidays and On-Call

Eligible participants must have a minimum of 6 months of experience and work 48 weekends per year, 24 hours per weekend (either two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts per weekend), between the hours of Friday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 7 a.m. A 15% incentive will be added to their hourly rate.

Weekend program benefits (medical benefits, paid short-term and long-term disability, tuition reimbursement, PTO accrual) offered as for full-time staff.

Generous $20,000 sign-on bonus for eligible new hires with 2-year commitment.

Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes

Responsibilities:

  • Performs computed tomography procedures utilizing established scan protocols, including contrast administration without requiring constant supervision.

  • Utilizes complex imaging equipment for the acquisition, analysis, reconstruction and documentation of image data and completes procedures according to protocol.

  • Ensures all exams within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through RIS system, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.

  • Administers PO, rectal and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assess patients for potential risk factors prior to the administration of the contrast media required for the imaging procedure.

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patients fears and solicit their cooperation.

  • Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement to adjust protocols, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation appropriately for diagnostic CT purposes.

  • Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect. Able to work as team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.

  • Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data. Documents patient history in electronic record as required.

  • Demonstrates proper technique in venipuncture; demonstrates proper use of power injector according to set protocols set by department and/or manufacturer.

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology or completion of accredited CNMT program.

  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:ARRT certified as a Radiologic Technologist is required or certified by a CNMT program. Must obtain CT Board Certification within 18 months of hire date. CPR or BLS Required CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Computed Tomography (CT) Technician

  • Act 31 with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
