Job description

The practice of computed tomography is performed by healthcare professionals responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. A computed tomography technologist performs computed tomography procedures that create the images needed for interpretation and the performance of interventional and therapeutic procedures at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.

Core Competencies
  1. Perform all the duties of a CT Technologist I.
  2. Capable of safely administering contrast or other imaging agents, including the identification of incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  3. Assess a patient's risk for allergic reactions to contrast media and other medications prior to administration, following appropriate protocols for escalation if needed.
  4. Evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast media or other medications and starting the examination.
  5. Provide accurate explanations and instructions to patients and families using age-appropriate language, ensuring understanding and consent.
  6. Perform ordered exams or therapies according to established imaging protocols while respecting patient comfort and ability.
  7. Adhere to policies and utilize protocols to meet expected outcomes.
  8. Document deviations from protocols or patient-specific issues impacting image quality.
  9. Notify healthcare providers when immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings or patient condition.
  10. Complete post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review in a timely manner.
  11. Ensure timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
  12. Routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on competency levels.

  1. Experienced and competent in routine and complex studies.
  2. Complete understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, policies, safety, and service standards.
  3. Thorough knowledge of imaging equipment, software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment.
Education, Certification & Experience

The position requires certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB), ARRT-CT, BLS certification, and successful completion of a 6-month orientation. Candidates with at least one year of experience may be hired directly into this role.
