Job Summary

This job assesses patients and safely performs routine computed tomography procedures in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Required - Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Work Experience

Required - None. Preferred - CT experience.

Certifications

Required - Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or computed tomography ARRT (CT) certified OR ARRT registry eligible, registered within 90 days of employment, and hold a temporary state license. CT registry eligible within one year. Advanced certification in CT within one year of becoming CT registry eligible. Current unrestricted license in the state of practice. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred - Advanced certification in CT by a mechanism acceptable to ARRT.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of CT procedures and technical language.
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
  • Self-directed and able to function without direct supervision.
  • Flexibility in work duties and hours, including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and hemodynamics.
  • Ability to identify stenosis or occlusion based on published criteria.
  • Assist physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance.
Job Duties
  • Verifies physician orders for accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
  • Operates equipment independently according to protocol, including IV placement.
  • Reviews images for diagnostic quality.
  • Performs quality control procedures as per standards.
  • Assists with departmental operations (inventory, scheduling, maintenance).
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and communication needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Other duties may be added or amended at any time. Ensures compliance with laws, standards, and regulations. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to the employer's compliance and privacy policies.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium work involving exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently. May involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues, with potential occupational risks.
