Job Overview

Your job is more than a job. The CT Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Under the direction of the Director of Radiology and Imaging, the CT Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of imaging equipment and performing diagnostic examinations. The CT Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the Radiology Department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The CT Technologist maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times, requires initiative and independent judgment, and is self‑motivated to increase knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.

General Duties
  • Promotes quality: Assure a safe environment for employees and patients, consistently wear film badge and protective lead, actively participate in departmental performance improvement activities, develop action plans to correct deficiencies, provide ongoing technical quality assurance/improvement.
  • Confirm patient identity, body part, and side for every patient prior to the procedure.
  • Perform all procedures per approved standards, position patients as determined for specific studies, ages, and conditions, provide immobilization as required.
  • Select proper technical factors and operate equipment as directed, provide radiation protection to patients and assistants in accordance with safety standards such as ALARA.
  • Communicate with patients and families, persuade cooperation, address anxiety during imaging procedures.
  • Assist physicians in administering contrast media, consult with radiologists, assist in the diagnosis of disease.
  • Process and send images to PACS, document information per established guidelines, ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain work area supplies, cleaning rooms, inventory, order supplies as needed.
  • Report equipment malfunctions immediately, troubleshoot equipment, perform daily checks, clean and disinfect equipment, coordinate repairs with director.
  • Attend mandatory in‑service education classes on topics such as TB, hepatitis, infection control, hospital safety, back tips, and fire & electrical.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards, don required PPE, participate in department meetings, report daily activities to director, perform other duties as requested to support department operations.
Must Haves & Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution or 2‑year certification program in Radiologic Technology (including training from United States Armed Forces) and at least 1 year of CT/Diagnostic technology experience.
  • Education and Work Experience Preferred: one year to obtain CT Registry by ARRT.
Required Certifications & Licenses
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) – American Heart Association (required).
  • Radiography Certification (ARRT) – American Registry Of Radiologic Technologist (required).
  • Computerized Tomography Certification (ARRT (CT)) – American Registry Of Radiologic Technologist (required within three years of start).
  • Radiology Technician (ARRT) – Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board Of Examiners (required).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effectively operate imaging equipment and evaluate images to acquire diagnostic information.
  • Analyze patient’s condition to determine best examination approach, assist patient in preparation and education.
  • Follow patient and equipment procedures, ensure safety, compile accurate patient information.
  • Consult with radiologist for determination of scan procedures, coordinate patient exams, and manage appointments and transportation.
  • Complete documentation to maintain patient files without omissions.
Reporting Relationships

No formal supervision of employees. Reports to Radiology Director.

Functional Demands
  • Heavy: Exert 50–100 pounds of force occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, 10–20 pounds constantly to move objects (exceeds Medium Work).
Physical Demands
  • Sitting frequent, Standing frequent, Walking frequent.
  • Lifting up to 100+ lbs occasional, Push/pull frequent, Twisting frequent, Bending frequent, Reaching forward and overhead frequent.
