Job Summary

The CT/X‑Ray Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. The position requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.

Day‑to‑Day GENERAL DUTIES

• Demonstrates skills and knowledge in use of all CT/X‑ray and peripheral equipment and performance of all CT/X‑ray protocols and procedures.
• Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high quality scans within the appropriate time for the procedure type.
• Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS.
• Reviews scans with the Radiologist regarding important anatomical detail and areas of abnormalities.
• Provides and performs training in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, federal, state, and local regulations.
• Assesses and evaluates the trainee and provides feedback to the Radiology Manager.
• Administers sound patient care practices to ensure patient safety.
• Communicates effectively with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent.
• Explains procedure to patients/families and maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition.
• Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and supplies, cleans and disinfects equipment, and maintains linen supply.
• Participates in department QC and PI programs, follows up on all deficiencies.
• Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures, practices aseptic techniques, and washes hands before and after each patient contact.
• Strictly adheres to the hospital policy on body substance isolation.
• Always wears film badge while on duty and follows departmental procedures for badge results.
• Consistently, accurately, and legibly records required information on the requisition.
• Pulls previous films, exams, and reports, accurately records the required information on the film jacket, and performs other file room duties.
• Charges for the procedures.
• Performs other routine clerical duties as assigned.
• Inputs and verifies all data sent and verified in PACS/RIS.
• Recognizes emergent situations and responds appropriately; calls code when needed.
• Observes and monitors patient's vital signs.
• Monitors medical equipment attached to the patient during the radiographic procedure.

Experience & Qualifications

• CT (NOEH) Registered or registry eligible (NOEH).
• Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology (NOEH/TOURO).
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification (American Heart Association).
• Radiography certification (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).
• Radiology Technician licensing (Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners).

Skills and Abilities

• Displays tact and diplomacy in interpersonal skills.
• Maintains license and registration current at all times.
• Renews annual CPR certification.
• Is IV certified by EJGH.
