Job summary

Scotland Health Care System in Laurinburg, NC is seeking a part-time CT technologist to perform examinations, review history, ensure medical necessity, and position patients for optimal imaging.

The ideal candidate will hold ARRT CT certification (or achieve within 2 years), BLS, and an AMA-accredited radiology program or equivalent, with 1–3 years of experience and strong communication and teamwork skills. You will help train students and support imaging department operations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs CT examinations and ensures patient safety during imaging.

  • Position patients using proper tools and techniques to ensure comfort and data quality.
  • Conduct clinical assessment and perform CT exams under physician supervision.
  • Refer complex questions to the supervising physician per policy and procedures.
  • Maintain patient privacy and adhere to HIPAA and facility policies.
  • Assist with daily imaging department operations and student training.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE (including annual requirements)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification; BLS certified
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) CT certification, within 2 years of hire

Job Description
  • Performs and assumes responsibility for the safety of the patient during their CT examination.
  • Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information.
  • Ensure that the CT examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of “medical necessity.”
  • Evaluate any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient’s inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures.
  • Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.
  • Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the technologist or patient.
  • Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the CT examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with professional and facility protocols.
  • Apply independent judgment during the CT examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.
  • Except as authorized by written facility policies and procedures, refer specific diagnostic, treatment or prognosis questions to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional.
  • As necessary, acquire additional imaging to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
  • Identify and document any limitations to the CT examination.
  • Review examination images, synthesize examination information.
  • Except as authorized by written facility policies and procedures, refer specific diagnostic, treatment or prognosis questions to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA) and facility policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to accepted professional and ethical standards.
  • Provide patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for radiology
  • Provide preliminary report of sonography examinations for use by the interpreting physician.
  • Assist with the daily operation of the imaging department.
  • Assist with the education and training of radiology/CT students and physician residents.
  • Transport patients as needed.
