Overall Objective

The Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist is responsible for delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging services in an outpatient setting while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction. This role supports efficient departmental operations by performing CT procedures in accordance with established protocols, maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and collaborating effectively with providers and care teams. The CT Technologist plays a key role in promoting a positive patient experience, optimizing workflow, and contributing to the overall quality of care.

Principal Activities And Expected End Results
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of patients and their families throughout the CT imaging process, adhering to all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Perform thorough patient screening prior to CT procedures, including verification of orders, assessment of contraindications, allergy history, and coordination with referring providers and lab vendors to obtain necessary labs (e.g., renal function for contrast studies).
  • Prepare and administer contrast media (oral and IV) in accordance with established protocols and under appropriate supervision, while monitoring patients for adverse reactions and responding appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Prepare patients for CT examinations by providing clear instructions, assisting with positioning, and ensuring proper protocol adherence to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Safely transfer and transport patients to and from CT exam rooms, assisting patients with mobility limitations as needed.
  • Operate CT imaging equipment in accordance with established protocols, ensuring image quality, patient safety, and radiation dose optimization (ALARA principles).
  • Start and maintain IV access as required for contrast-enhanced studies, following facility policies and scope of practice guidelines. When placing the IV, draw blood for particular labs, if needed, once signed off by designated personnel.
  • Monitor patients during and after procedures, particularly those receiving contrast, and provide post-procedure instructions prior to discharge.
  • Utilize radiology information systems (RIS), PACS, and other electronic systems to manage patient workflows, review schedules, complete documentation, and generate requisitions and work orders.
  • Maintain exam rooms and work areas by cleaning, stocking supplies, and ensuring equipment is functioning properly; perform quality control checks and end-of-day closing procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison between ordering providers, scheduling teams, and radiology staff to facilitate efficient patient care, including clarification of orders and protocol selection.
  • Verify patient insurance authorization and ensure required documentation is complete prior to imaging
  • Assist with front desk responsibilities during staffing shortages or absences to maintain seamless department operations.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients and visitors, addressing routine inquiries, handling phone calls, and assisting with requests such as reports or imaging CDs.
  • Support scheduling needs, including coordinating follow-up appointments, verifying orders, and ensuring appropriate exam preparation instructions are communicated to patients.
  • Maintain compliance with outpatient workflow expectations, including patient throughput, on-time performance, and minimizing wait times.
  • Participate in accreditation and regulatory compliance activities (e.g., ACR), including maintaining proper documentation, protocols, and quality standards.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by performing additional duties as assigned to support departmental workflow and enhance the overall patient experience.
Requirements
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Experience
  • High school diploma is required
  • ARRT certification in CT
  • State license in Radiologic Technology
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Experience
  • Previous experience as a CT technologist
Prior Work Experience
  • Previous work experience as a CT technologist an outpatient setting or hospital
Physical Requirements

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach and grasp using hands and arms. Occasionally required to bend, kneel, climb (not more than 6' high), and lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs. without assistance and greater than 20 lbs. with assistance. Visual and hearing acuity required to receive and act on instructions and ability use a telephone and computer. Requires repetitive hand motion (keyboarding and operating a mouse).

Compensation Range: $31.01 - $43.80/hour, based on experience
