Job summary

St. Joseph's/Candler is seeking a Cat Scan Technologist to operate specialized CT imaging equipment for diagnostic and staging purposes. You will document lab values, follow department protocols, and perform exams per Radiology leadership guidelines.

The role requires association degree, state license, ARRT registry eligibility with within 1 year, and BLS certification, with a preference for 1 year of experience. Independent workflow and strong communication with staff and patients are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associates of Science - Required.
  • 1 Year - Preferred.
  • Professional License with State of Practice - Required.
  • National CT Certification within 1 year of hire date. Must be ARRT registry eligible. Must obtain ARRT registry within 1 year of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately enters procedural documentation and patient charges per department guidelines.
  • Areas of concern in patient history or on imaging are identified and communicated to radiologist to ensure proper action.
  • Completes required documentation in department's PACS.
  • Obtains/verifies orders from Physician offices and scans orders in the imaging system.
  • Complies with JC, OSHA, ACR guidelines, aseptic technique, universal precautions, Time/Out, Read back/Verify and ALARA.
  • Provides patient care related to contrast administration policy and uses PYXIS for medication access and verification.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and documents work orders; participates in staff education.

Job description

  • The Cat scan Technologist uses highly specialized computed radiographic equipment for the diagnosis or staging of diseases and trauma. This involves acquiring appropriate digital imaging with or without the use of contrast agents, in various planes. The Cat Scan Technologist is responsible for knowing and documenting pertinent lab values while following Departmental Policies or protocols. The CT Technologist works independent of immediate supervision, completing exams per protocols established and approved by the Chairman and Director of Radiology. The Technologist maintains open communication with all internal and external customers.

  • Obtains/verifies orders from Physician offices. Verifies that the appropriate diagnosis is on orders. Places/scans orders in computer system for Imaging.
  • Knowledgeable of JC, OSHA, and ACR guidelines concerning the care of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of proper aseptic technique, Universal Precautions, Time/Out, Read back/Verify and ALARA. Demonstrates knowledge of patients rights and use of required patient identification.
  • Provide excellent patient care as related to contrast administration policy. Compliant with use of PYXIS for medication access and verification.
  • Routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment is performed in accordance with manufacturer recommendation and department policy. Work orders involving equipment are entered promptly into the system. Staff education regarding care and operation of equipment is conducted annually and as needed.
  • Maintains national certification/registry. Is competent in the use of all departmental equipment and is able to perform all procedures effectively.
  • Maintains and works safely with equipment. Reports any issues with equipment to management for correction or repair. Uses Safe Patient Handling system appropriately.
