Job summary

UNC Rockingham Health Care in Eden, NC is seeking a CT Scan Specialist to perform CT imaging procedures, including contrast administration, while maintaining patient safety and comfort. The role requires handling image transfer to PACS and EMR systems and contributing to a high-quality diagnostic workflow.

The position is full-time with weekend hours and is governed by UNC Health policies. A registered radiology certificate or NMTCB(CT) certification is required, with ongoing education and BLS

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science.
• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or NMTCB(CT) certification, or be registry eligible.
• Must become registered within two years of employment and maintain registry status and continuing education requirements.
• All imaging specialists are required to maintain current competency in BLS.

Responsibilities

• Patient Identification and professional interaction to verify patient information and safety.
• Perform CT scans with adherence to protocols, including multi-planar and 3D reconstructions.
• Administer oral and IV contrast as required and monitor patient safety.
• Manage image transfer to PACS/EMR at UNC and ensure accurate charge information.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment and assist with training new staff and students.

Summary: Conducts procedures and tests using Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data.

Hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday; 6:00am - 6:00pm

1. Patient Identification – Uses professional manners and methods, verifies patient identification, obtains patient history, assists patients and family members that require extra attention, ensures patient understanding whenever possible, and ensures patient safety. Verifies patient identification and documents pregnancy status on patients of child‑bearing age.
2. CT Scans – Obtains images per protocols, manipulates images according to protocols, performs multi‑planar and 3D reconstruction of image data, demonstrates a thorough knowledge of CT algorithms, and selects appropriate window and level setting according to anatomy.
3. Contrast – Administers oral contrast to adult and pediatric patients according to protocols, establishes intravenous lines, administers IV contrast following safe and proper injection procedures, follows correct procedure to determine contrast eligibility, checks appropriate lab values before contrast injection per protocol.
4. Image Transfer – Maintains thorough understanding of PACS, transmits images to QC, UNC’s EMR, EPIC and PACS, verifies and segments images at the QC station, accesses IMPAX service tools to verify image transmission, completes, modifies and/or cancels orders in an appropriate and timely manner, cancels duplicate orders to avoid duplicate billing. Ensures that all charge information is accurate. Verifies patient identification in accordance with UNC policy, ensures that all appropriate demographic information is accurate and on the PACS images.
5. Other Duties – Performs tasks in a timely manner, runs the schedule creating a consistent workflow, volunteers to work on challenging tasks, difficult procedures and new research, produces quality diagnostic images, reviews patient’s chart and reports for correlation, maintains a clean and orderly work environment, creates and keeps documentation of incidents as improvement opportunities for employees and the department, precepts new employees and students.

Education Requirements:

• Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science or completion within 3 months at time of application.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or certified with the NMTCB(CT) or be registry eligible. For registry eligible candidates, must provide a copy of diploma from an accredited program.
• Successful candidates must become registered within two years of employment and must maintain their registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
• All imaging specialists are required to maintain current competency in HCP BLS.

Professional Experience Requirements:

• Prior education, training and experience that provides the ability to perform the assigned tasks.
