Summary

Conducts complex procedures and tests using Computed Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data. Works in collaboration with various teams (Trauma, Stroke, Cardiology) to obtain necessary imaging for advanced diagnoses to aid in treatment options.

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 8:30pm – 7:00am

Responsibilities

• Conducts complex procedures and tests using CT equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data. Collaborates with teams (Trauma, Stroke, Cardiology) to obtain necessary imaging for advanced diagnoses.
• Assists the radiologist in performing high‑risk invasive diagnostic techniques such as needle biopsies, aspirations, CT‑guided joint injections, and CT‑guided needle‑wire placement exams for surgery. Provides input for alternative approaches and adjustment of scan parameters to limit radiation dosage.
• Evaluates contra‑indications such as medications, insufficient patient preparation, or patient inability/unwillingness to tolerate procedures. Notifies care teams and coordinates appropriate care prior to the patient’s arrival when possible.
• Performs CTA perfusion, Code IA/Stroke/Bat, Red Trauma Series, Yellow Trauma Series, ROSC, and Portable CT procedures as defined by the physician. Trains CT Tech I team members on these and other high‑risk exams/procedures.
• Recognizes diagnostic characteristics of normal and abnormal scans, anatomy, and questionable findings, and alerts the radiologist for escalation or additional care.
• Manipulates parameters for CT Gated Watchman and cardiac exams, including monitoring devices and computing equipment settings.
• Analyzes scan data throughout the examination so that a comprehensive exam is completed and sufficient data is provided to the physician; documents any complications that may have impacted image quality.
• Triages care for general anesthesia (adult/pediatric) exams and educates care teams, ensuring optimal parameters, equipment settings, contrast administration, and post‑processing of images.
• Obtains images per protocols, manipulates images according to protocols, performs multi‑planar and 3‑D reconstruction of image data, and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of CT algorithms while selecting appropriate window/level settings.
• Administers oral and rectal contrast to adult and pediatric patients per protocols, establishes intravenous lines, administers IV contrast following safe injection procedures, verifies contrast eligibility, and checks appropriate lab values before injection.

Education Requirements

• Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science with an advanced registry in Computed Tomography.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or be registry eligible. Registry‑eligible candidates must provide a copy of a diploma from an accredited program.
• Requires advanced certification in CT.
• Must maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
• All imaging specialists must maintain current competency in HCP BLS.

Professional Experience Requirements

• Three (3) years of experience as a CT Technologist.
