Job summary

Aurora Medical Center West Allis is seeking a Weekend Program CT Technologist II to join our Imaging team. This full-time weekend position offers 12-hour shifts (6:00 AM–6:00 PM) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with holiday rotation.

You’ll operate CT equipment, administer contrast, and support advanced imaging procedures in a collaborative environment. Required licensure as a Wisconsin Radiographer, ARRT RT and CT registrations, and BLS within 6 months; typically 2 years CT experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and radiation safety.
  • Proficient in IV and venipuncture.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Certification Addendum required by department.
  • Annual education requirements for hospital certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CT equipment to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures (incl. CT guidance, angiography, cardiac, PET/CT).
  • Obtain patient history and verify requisitions for exam accuracy.
  • Position patients and adjust scanning factors to obtain correct images and ensure radiation safety.
  • Prepare/ administer contrast under Radiologist direction and assist in scanning techniques.
  • Post-process images and label images with patient details and location.
  • Maintain records and document billing codes; enter data into RIS.
  • Identify equipment issues and perform QA tests; report malfunctions.
  • Serve as a resource/ preceptor for staff and students; collaborate with departments for education.
  • Assist in patient positioning and transportation with proper safety technique.
  • Demonstrate care appropriate to patient age and growth/development needs.

Major Responsibilities
  • Proficiently operate CT equipment to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures. Must perform and be proficient with all of the following procedures if performed at assigned facility which include scrub CT guided invasive procedures, angiography, cardiac, cyber‑knife, venography, cerebral, PET/CT, and 3D reformatting including cardiac, vascular and neurological.
  • Obtain medical history from patients and compare requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.
  • Position patient and select proper scanning factors, adjust factors to attain the appropriate images, and provide radiation protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist, and assist in the proper scanning techniques. Provide measurements and additional slices for accurate interpretation with direction from the Radiologist.
  • Post‑process images as directed and accurately identify and label images, identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
  • Maintain records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enter patient and study information into the radiology information system, and document billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
  • Identify equipment performance issues and perform equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluate new products and equipment.
  • Serve as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff. Act as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system.
  • Facilitate clinical problem solving and collaborate with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other imaging department processes and procedures.
  • Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age‑specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age‑specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required
  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin, and
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and
  • Computed Tomography (CT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
Education Required
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
Experience Required
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a CT Technologist role.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Advanced knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and radiation safety.
  • Proficient in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.

  • Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g. DNV, CARF or others).
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to:
  • ‑ lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • ‑ lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
  • ‑ carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to:
  • ‑ push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • ‑ perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • Must have clear speech, vision and hearing.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
