Job description

Job Title: CT Scan Technologist

Eligible for up to $20,000 Sign-On Bonus

Summary:

Under the supervision of the CT Scan Manager and Lead CT Scan Technologist, according to established procedures, operates a CT scanner and related equipment to produce radiographs of designated anatomical areas. Responsible for collecting and completing patient data and equipment operation records. Provides assistance to patients and radiologists, troubleshoots minor equipment issues, and performs calibration and quality control functions. Ensures all procedures meet the age-specific needs of geriatric and pediatric patients, fostering patient and family-centered care in alignment with Brown University Health and Rhode Island Hospital's mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities:

  1. Operates the CT scanner, including checking calibration, energizing equipment, loading programs, and positioning patients and equipment.
  2. Selects appropriate scan parameters such as slice width, thickness, and scan speed using computer commands.
  3. Records patient data accurately, verifies charge codes, and screens patients for allergies, pregnancy, or other sensitivities.
  4. Prepares and administers contrast media and saline as needed.
  5. Monitors patients and equipment during scans and processes images.
  6. Performs advanced computer functions for diagnostic assistance, including 2D, 3D, 4D, MIP, VRE, and SSD imaging.
  7. Diagnoses and troubleshoots equipment issues, arranging for repairs when necessary.
  8. Maintains detailed records for quality control, service reports, and equipment performance.
  9. Provides educational support to students and staff, maintaining appropriate documentation.
  10. May perform general radiologic procedures and specialized techniques such as biopsies and ablations.

Qualifications:

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and in good standing.
  • Current CPR certification (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers).
  • RI state radiation license and CT-specific license from the DOH.
  • Minimum of two years of formal radiologic training plus ARRT registration.
  • In-depth knowledge of diagnostic radiologic procedures and CT equipment operation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and staff.

Experience:

Minimum six months of hospital radiology experience and six months specialized CT training.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Work primarily in the CT scan area or satellite locations with minimal discomfort from noise, dust, or temperature.
  • Exposure to radiation with safety precautions in place.
  • Requires standing, walking, lifting, and positioning patients for extended periods.
