Job description

Job Summary

The Cat Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Generic Job Functions

1. Performs complex CT procedures.
2. Uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient's clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into PACS.
3. Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patient and/or family member and scans into EPIC.
4. Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
5. Reviews the patient prescription to verify appropriateness of exam and communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician if incorrect.
6. Responsible for calling physicians to clarify the prescription in accordance with appropriate CT protocols.
7. Verifies insurance authorized exam script and sends exam modification forms to Finance for insurance re-verification.
8. Obtains outside studies (CD), schedules them in EPIC, and ensures CD and reports are available in PACS for Radiologists' comparison.
9. Provides exam copies to the patient and requesting physician and/or family member.
10. Evaluates radiographs using PACS System to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value.
11. Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical record, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety.
12. Prepares patient for scanning including shielding and immobilization devices.
13. Determines appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
14. Provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate level for the patient to understand.
15. Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines.
16. Monitors the patient's physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure.
17. Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends, and overtime as needed.
18. Adheres to the policy of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
19. Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
20. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies care specific to those needs.
21. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.

Education Requirement

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
• ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Required Skills & Experience:

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body.
• Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
• Thorough knowledge of PACS system.
• Maintains CEU Credits.
• Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months following hire date.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire date.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Six months CT experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS system added by the hospital.

Schedule Notes

5 - 8-hour Shifts 11p - 7a Monday - Friday, every other weekend Or 4 - 10 hour Shifts 9p - 7a Monday - Friday, every other weekend. A minimum of 2 years of CT experience on Siemens Equipment. Applicants with immediate availability to start will be heavily considered. Must be willing to cover 1 weekend of OnCall obligations if needed.
