Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program required.
  • ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license and NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License needed.

Job description

Job Summary:


The Cat Scan Technologist performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.


Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):

  • Performs complex CT procedures.
  • Uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient's clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into PACS.
  • Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member and scans into EPIC.
  • Identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Reviews the patient prescription to verify appropriateness of exam and if incorrect, communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription.
  • Responsible for calling physicians to clarify the prescription in accordance with the appropriate CT protocols.
  • Responsible for verifying insurance authorized exam script and sending exam modification forms to Finance for insurance re-verification.
  • Responsible for obtaining outside studies (CDs) and scheduling them in EPIC so the CDs and reports are available in PACS for radiologist review.
  • Responsible for providing exam copies to the patient and requesting physician and/or family members.
  • Evaluates radiographs using PACS to ensure proper identification and diagnostic quality.
  • Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety.
  • Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure.
  • Prepares the patient for scanning (e.g., shielding, immobilization devices).
  • Determines the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
  • Provides accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand, addressing and documenting questions and concerns.
  • Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to guidelines.
  • Monitors the patient's physical condition for adverse reactions during the procedure.
  • Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends, with overtime as needed.
  • Participates in on-call assignments as needed per department policy.
  • Adheres to policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
  • Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls at least 50 lbs., and stands for a minimum of 6 hours daily.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies care accordingly, communicating effectively with patients and caregivers at their level.
  • Adheres to organizational standards and behaviors.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Certifications & Licensure:

  • NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
  • ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiological positioning.
  • Understanding of CT software and hardware.
  • Thorough knowledge of PACS system.
  • Maintains CEU credits.
  • Achieve ARRT (CT) certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Maintain BLS certification within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Six months CT experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Epic and hospital HIS/RIS systems.

Schedule Notes:

Overnight shifts: Thursday/Friday/Saturday, 7:30 PM - 8:00 AM, 3x12-hour shifts.
