Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a CT technologist to assist the radiologist and physicians in producing high-quality CT and radiographic images while minimizing radiation exposure. Provide general patient care in the department.

Requirements include an associate degree, ARRT registration in Radiography and CT, BLS, and 1–2 years of CT experience preferred. Proficiency with RIS/PACS/HIS and Windows is expected.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Healthcare or related field required.
• One year experience as a CT technologist preferred.
• ARRT registration in Radiologic Technology and CT required within specified timelines.
• BLS certification required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform CT studies following protocol and tailor exams per patient history and radiologist instruction.
• Administer IV and oral contrast per protocol and monitor patient condition throughout procedures.
• Provide radiation protection using shielding and collimation as appropriate.
• Assist radiologist and nursing staff, obtain vital signs and clinical history, and manage data documentation.

Summary

This position assists the radiologist and other physicians with high quality, computerized tomographic and radiographic images required in part for the diagnosis and treatment of patients while ensuring the least amount of radiation exposure to oneself and the patient. Provides general care to the patient while in the department.

This position assists the radiologist and other physicians with high quality, computerized tomographic and radiographic images required in part for the diagnosis and treatment of patients while ensuring the least amount of radiation exposure to oneself and the patient. Responsibilities

• (25%)* Performs computed tomography studies following protocol. Is able to differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomy and will tailor exams in accordance with patient history obtained, protocol, and radiologist instruction.
• (25%)* Administers IV and oral contrast as required for procedures according to protocols. Follows departmental protocol and institution guidelines for delivery of IV contrast material. Monitors patients’ physical and mental condition throughout the entire procedures. Records any and all patient data appropriately.
• (25%)* Provides radiation protection for patients, self and others using gonadal shielding and collimation where applicable. Document acknowledgment of scheduling as directed.
• (25%)* Performs nursing duties, including but not limited to the following: assisting the radiologist in the performance of sterile procedures, practicing sterile technique, obtain vital signs, obtain pertinent clinical history, and must be proficient in venous puncture. Will document any and all important data appropriately. Will be able to identify an allergic reaction or any other urgent medical condition and will notify and assist the radiologist in the treatment of such a situation.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains patient information and digital files in computerized database.
• Performs clerical duties in the absence of clerical personnel.
• Orients and trains new personnel and students to the departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
• Participates in quality assurance and CQI programs as needed.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned including assisting in other areas of the department as needed.

Certifications and Licensures

• ARRT - Reg Radiologic Technologist - Required Equivalent Experience - Within 1 year of hire or transfer.
• ARRT CT - ARRT CT - Required Equivalent Experience - Required within 3 years of hire or transfer
• BLS - Basic Life Support - Required Equivalent Experience - Within 1 month of hire or transfer

Required Education

• Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
• Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
• Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
• Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
• Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
• Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
• Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
