Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. The selected candidate will support work on Bechtel's U.S. solar portfolio and be required to work onsite.

Job Summary

This position will be responsible for supervising and executing electrical activities related to commissioning and start‑up. The role requires coordinating with other disciplines within the project CSU group to complete all required testing from component level through integrated operation with the rest of the facility. The individual will ensure the CSU scope of the associated Electrical work is completed in compliance with project safety standards, project quality standards, and design specifications, while performing general functions inherent in all home office and field positions.

Major Responsibilities

General

• Leads support of basic Startup Specialist duties of installation configuration validation and work package development
• Participates in planning and execution of testing as per NETA, and administers activities including LOTO and completions database
• Maintains and ensures punch‑list item data and its integrity
• Reviews and approves inspection test plans and test records, maintaining quality testing paperwork for successful handover
• Supervises and directs subcontractor personnel as required to support commissioning activities (e.g., meter and relay testing)

Work Planning & Packaging

• Plans and schedules CSU execution activities, including sequence and resource requirements for assigned areas of responsibility
• Prepares Startup Work Packages and Test Work Packages for assigned areas of responsibility

Turnover Coordination

• Participates in Construction‑to‑CSU turnover walk‑downs for assigned areas of responsibility
• Interfaces with the Field Engineer as required to support component/system turnover

Material Management & Quantities

• Initiates requisitions for field purchases and prepares quantity take‑offs of field purchased material and equipment
• Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for CSU using procurement systems or other database programs

Quality Control

• Performs walk‑downs to validate that the system configuration is in accordance with the design
• Performs and/or monitors testing of equipment to assure conformance with specifications and compliance with test procedures, ensuring safe work methods and supporting schedule and cost objectives

ES&H

• Identifies and resolves/elevates ES&H issues in the field and serves as a visible leader in good ES&H practices

Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5‑8 years of relevant experience, or 9‑12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Experience in substation construction & testing (NETA), especially on solar projects.
• Experience in the design of solar facilities.
• Extensive and broad technical experience of commissioning, start‑up, operation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems/components of MV AC collection systems and substation facilities.
• Knowledge and understanding of engineering systems, applications of start‑up and operations, and previous experience in industrial electrical commissioning roles.
• Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to start‑up, maintenance, operations, or testing.
• Effective communication skills essential for motivating team members and presenting plans clearly; collaborates well in a team environment.
• Good leadership skills and ability to supervise craft for testing, start‑up, and operations activity.
• Understanding of project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, to fabrication.
