Job summary

MetroHealth is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, prepare, and sterilize a wide range of surgical instruments, including specialty sets, ensuring accuracy and readiness for the operating rooms. You will work closely with OR and labor/delivery teams, maintain strict infection control standards, and support gear tracking and storage while upholding MetroHealth's service values.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Two years experience in a Central Service Department, including one year experience in surgical instrument set assembly.
• Completion of a surgical technician program.
• Current certification - CBSPD or IAHCSMM or obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Good communication skills and phone etiquette.
• Knowledgeable in medical terminology.
• Ability to work independently and with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, prepare, package, sterilize and store surgical instrumentation.
• Liaise with hospital staff, especially OR and labor/delivery, regarding care and use of instruments.

Biweekly Hours: 8.00

Shift: Rotating

Summary:

Responsible for the decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization and storage of all surgical instrumentation including specialty instrumentation requiring intricate assembly and special care. Functions as liaison to the hospital staff, especially the operating room and labor and delivery room concerning the care and use of instruments and supplies. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
• Possesses one of the following:
  • Two years experience in a Central Service Department, including one year experience in surgical instrument set assembly.
  • Completion of a surgical technician program.
  • Current certification - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) Current sterile processing/Central Service certification, or obtains within 6 months of employment.
• Good communication skills and phone etiquette.
• Knowledgeable in medical terminology.
• Ability to work independently and self‑guided with a strong attention to detail.

Preferred:

• Basic PC skills.
• Experience with a materials management or operating room information system.
• Experience with instrument tracking system.

Physical Requirements:

• May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
• May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
• See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
• Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
• Ability to push/pull 350 pounds.
