Qualifications

  • Completion of an authorized Communication Training Officer Program or equivalent may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and manage personnel at the Regional Communication Center.
  • Schedule Communication Officers and equipment to locations to meet service needs.
  • Oversee all communications within the Regional Communication Center.
  • Coordinate with customers/agencies or supervising personnel to address questions, problems, or service requests.
  • Record and maintain files of requests, work performed, charges, and inventory.
  • Mentor and supervise team members toward career development.
  • Investigate, document, and provide information on citizen complaints.
  • Develop performance plans, conduct mid-year reviews, and finalize evaluations per State rules.
  • Perform functions as a Communication Technician as needed.

Full Salary Range: $5,736 - $8,030/month; $68,832 - $96,360/year

The mission of the Colorado State Patrol is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all persons by utilizing the strengths of its members and providing professional law enforcement services that reflect honor, duty, and respect. Through high visibility, strict enforcement, maximum resource deployment, and community education, the CSP promotes safety, protects lives, and preserves state highways.

About the Job

The Dispatcher Supervisor oversees various aspects of daily operations in a regional communication center, ensuring smooth operations and personnel management. They handle critical incidents, maintain compliance, and ensure high-quality communication services. They mentors and guides team members. The Dispatch Supervisor requires quick and immediate decision-making. During critical incidents, they are responsible for managing and orchestrating center resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and manage personnel at the Regional Communication Center.
  • Schedule Communication Officers and/or equipment to appropriate locations, according to service needs to meet organizational goals.
  • Oversee all communications within the Regional Communication Center.
  • Confer with customers/agencies or supervising personnel to address questions, problems, or requests for service and/or equipment.
  • Record and maintain files or records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, or other dispatch information.
  • Mentor and supervise members through professional development and the attainment of their career goals.
  • Investigate, document and provide necessary information on citizen complaints.
  • Work with members to develop a comprehensive performance plan, conduct a mid-year review, and a final evaluation in accordance with current State of Colorado Personnel rules.
  • Perform the functions as a Communication Technician as necessary.
Proven Experience, Knowledge, Skills
  • Two years of relevant experience in Police Dispatch.
OR Education and Experience, Knowledge, Skills
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in Police Dispatch equal to two years.
  • Completion of an authorized Communication Training Officer Program or equivalent will substitute for one year of the required experience.

  • Supervisory Skills: ability to hold others accountable, how to handle violations of policy, do they have the skills to coach or mentor others, can they motivate a team behind a mission or goal, do they have a leadership presence?
  • Oral Presentation Skills: communicating with the individuals they supervise; communicating with diverse groups of people, running team meetings, how would they handle a complaint on a police comm action?
  • Resource Management: performing scheduling activities with low manpower, equipment functioning issues; do they know the resources they have available to them?
  • Building effective partnerships with external and internal partners
  • Decision Making: position requires quick and immediate decision making. Those decisions must be made with good judgment
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
  • APCO Supervisor Designation or NENA 911 Center Manager Certification must be obtained within 6 months of promotion
