Job summary

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is seeking a Surgical First Assistant for the night shift in Shawnee Mission, KS. You will support operating rooms by preparing suites, selecting instruments, and assisting surgeons with procedures.

Responsibilities include maintaining sterile technique, assisting with patient positioning, and verifying time-outs. Required credentials include BLS and CSFA/SA-C/CSA certification and hospital experience; high school grad with preferred associate degree.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, and speak conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality.
• Ability to prepare surgical suites and anticipate surgeon needs.
• Knowledge of asepsis, safety, and operative techniques.

Responsibilities

• Uses physician preference cards to set up operating suites.
• Determines appropriate surgical equipment based on preferences.
• Achieves hemostasis using appropriate techniques.
• Assists with body plane closures, dressings, and drainage systems.
• Maintains aseptic technique and monitors staff for breaks.
• Performs instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with circulator.
• Participates in time-out procedure and verifies discrepancies.
• Counts medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
