Subcritical Systems in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced Cryogenic Engineer to lead the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of a large helium refrigeration plant for the Energy Amplifier. You will work with SRF cavities, magnets, RF, and cryomodules to deliver a reliable 2 K/4.5 K cryogenic architecture aimed for first power in 2028.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional experience in cryogenic engineering.
Hands-on delivery of helium refrigeration plants or large cryogenic distribution systems.
Experience specifying, procuring, and commissioning cryogenic plants in accelerator, fusion, detector, or industrial settings.
Fluency in cryogenic process simulation and heat load modeling (Aspen HYSYS, EcosimPro/PROOSIS, or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of ASME pressure vessel and piping codes, ODH analysis, and cryogenic safety practices.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end design of the helium refrigeration plant (4.5 K cold boxes, 2 K sub-atmospheric cooling, compressors, gas management).
Lead integration with SRF cavity, magnet, RF, and cryomodule teams for thermo-mechanical interfaces.
Oversee installation, commissioning, and operation plans; train operators before first beam and power.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and licensing interactions; contribute to safety case.
