Job summary

Subcritical Systems in Austin, TX seeks an Electrical Engineer to lead cryomodule electrical systems across RF, magnet power, diagnostics, and instrumentation. You will collaborate with SRF, cryogenic, mechanical, controls, and manufacturing teams to drive concepts through fabrication, testing, and commissioning.

You will influence ATLAS AI-assisted engineering outputs, review designs for safety and performance, and ensure robust interlocks and protection for accelerator hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline; master's preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience on accelerator, RF, or power systems, or 6+ years broader experience.
• System-level expertise in high-power RF and couplers, Low Level RF, magnet power supplies, or beam diagnostics electronics.
• Working knowledge of resonant cavity coupling, transmission lines, and analog/digital circuit design.
• Hands-on use of RF/electronic test equipment and the ability to read schematics.
• Understanding of high-voltage safety and LOTO, with ability to produce clear specifications and test plans.

Responsibilities

• Own the cryomodule's electrical engineering scope: design, fabrication, AI implementation, assembly and commissioning.
• Design and specify high-power RF systems.
• Specify superconducting magnets, current leads, DC power supplies, and quench protection for the cryomodule.
• Develop beam position monitors and cryomodule instrumentation, including signal chains and readout electronics.
• Define interlocks and equipment protection for couplers, cavities, and magnets; integrate with control systems.
• Develop schematics, specifications, and test procedures; commission and troubleshoot hardware; feedback into future designs.
• Translate validated models and test data into ATLAS and promote a proactive safety culture including LOTO.
