SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Cryo-EM Specialist to support state-of-the-art electron microscopy facilities, including 7 Thermo Fisher cryoEM instruments and two cryoET systems. The role includes specimen preparation, microscope operation, data collection, and user support across a diverse research environment.

You will train staff and users, interface with the computing team for data handling, and contribute to publications and research reports.

Formación

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in a relevant scientific field with at least two years of experience or Master’s with related experience.
• Strong understanding of cryoEM principles and transmission electron microscopy.
• Experience with data collection, processing and analysis pipelines for cryoEM.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with scientists at various levels of expertise.

Responsabilidades

• Prepare cryoEM specimens for study.
• Operate electron microscopes to study cryo-specimens.
• Screen specimens for suitability in structural research.
• Perform preliminary image data quality evaluation and tuning of microscopes.
• Collect image data for users.
• Evaluate data quality and provide feedback on data collection.
• Collaborate with SLAC computing team to ensure data storage and processing.
• Perform image processing.
• Assist researchers and oversee experiments.
• Train new staff and users.
• Develop data collection enhancements and instructional materials.
