Job summary

Richland County School District One at Hopkins Elementary School seeks a Lead After School tutor (Hourly) to provide academic assistance for at least two hours daily, two days a week. Under principal supervision, you will support student learning and progress.

The role requires a valid South Carolina educator license and a strong math background. You will mentor students, assess progress, and model professional conduct during tutoring sessions.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Take an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of students.
• Serve as a role model/mentor to students by being a lifelong learner and demonstrating appropriate behaviors.
• Determine from student notes and discussions the concepts that need to be taught or retaught.
• Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
• Become familiar with the materials in the Libraries and textbooks used by students.
• Conduct tutoring sessions in mathematics; a strong math background is mandatory.
• Conduct mini-lessons in writing and study skills to support college preparation.
• Set high expectations and model personal excellence for students.
• Support students through the writing process (brainstorming, clustering, revision, editing).
• Communicate progress and concerns with the coordinator/teacher.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
Under direct supervision of the principal, certified tutors will perform the following tasks:

• Take an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of students.
• Serve as a role model/mentor to students by being a lifelong learner, demonstrating appropriate academic and social behaviors, and wearing appropriate attire at all times.
• Determine from student's notes and discussions, the concepts that need to be taught or retaught.
• Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
• Become familiar with the materials in the Libraries.
• Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by students.
• Conduct tutorial sessions in all areas of mathematics; therefore, a strong math background is mandatory.
• Conduct mini-lessons in the process of writing in all subject areas, study skills, and other aspects of college preparation.
• Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for students to follow.
• Work with students in any phase of the writing process, such as brainstorming, clustering, revision, and editing.
• Communicate frequently and honestly with the coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.

Qualifications Must possess valid S.C. Educator licensure.
