Job summary

Redbird Elementary School in Mesa, AZ is seeking a dedicated Crossing Guard for a part-time role (10 hours per week). Starting date immediately, base hourly rate $16.56 with annual performance pay.

As a Crossing Guard you will supervise safe crossing for schoolchildren, communicate safety rules to students and parents, and wear the required safety gear while coordinating with school staff to ensure a secure route to and from school.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of traffic safety rules and school policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the safe crossing of school children in designated crossing areas
• Assist students, parents, and staff to provide safe access to and from school
• Communicate to students, parents, staff and visitors to ensure their understanding of school policies and enforcement procedures
• Report observation and/or incidents relating to students to appropriate school personnel
• Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns
• Wear orange safety vest and carry MPS issued, red hand-held sign to guide students, parents, staff, etc. through crossing area
• Place and remove school crossing and traffic control signs to notify motorists of school pedestrian crossing
• Regular on time attendance required
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Employment Type: Part-time (10 hours per week)

Base Hourly: $16.56

Class/Calendar: A11, 9.25 months

Benefits: None

Performance Pay: Available annually

New Hire Experience: 1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to aten-year maximum

New Hire Education: 1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to push/pull up to 10lbs and lift/carry up to 10lbs

• Must be able to speak in conversations or other talking; hear conversations and other sounds; and have close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception
• Position requires continuous standing and/or walking
