Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a crossing guard for Irving Elementary in Mesa, Arizona. This part-time position covers designated crossing areas to ensure the safety of students commuting to and from school.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, knowledge of traffic safety rules, and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff. Salary is $16.56 per hour with a 5-hour weekly schedule.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the safe crossing of school children in designated crossing areas
• Assist students, parents, and staff to provide safe access to and from school
• Communicate to students, parents, staff and visitors to ensure their understanding of school policies and enforcement procedures
• Report observation and/or incidents relating to students to appropriate school personnel
• Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns
• Wear orange safety vest and carry MPS issued, red hand-held sign to guide students, parents, staff, etc. through crossing area
• Place and remove school crossing and traffic control signs to notify motorists of school pedestrian crossing
• Regular on time attendance required
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Base Hourly:

$16.56

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New Hire Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to aten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary:

• Must be able to push/pull up to 10lbs and lift/carry up to 10lbs

• Must be able to speak in conversations or other talking; hear conversations and other sounds; and have close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception
