Primary Purpose

The Crossing Guard is responsible for the safety of students walking and biking to and from school.

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Texas driver's license

Preferred

• Experience in related position or field

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of crossing guard procedures, use of safety equipment, and traffic laws around school campuses
• Good communication skills
• Interpersonal skills for interacting with motorists

Essential Functions

Major Responsibilities

• Standing and walking tasks
• Mobility of fingers, hands, wrists, arms, neck, back, waist, legs, knees, and ankles

Audio Visual Demands

• Average hearing
• Corrected 20/20 vision
• Good depth perception
• Ability to distinguish colors

Work Environment

• Normal noise levels
• Mostly outdoor work
• Indoor work with or without air conditioning
• Work alone or with team members

Training

• First day orientation - Crossing Guard Training Program

Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. May involve strenuous walking, standing, climbing, operating a vehicle, and dealing with adverse conditions and confrontations. Ability to work outdoors in varying climates, drive, and travel as needed. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, stand, walk, and be mobile. Overtime may be required.
