REPORTS TO: Crossing Guard Coordinator

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose

The Crossing Guard is responsible for the safety of students walking and biking to and from school.

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Texas driver's license

Preferred

• Experience in related position or field

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of crossing guard procedures, use of safety equipment, and applicable traffic laws around school campuses.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to maintain good interpersonal skills when interacting with motorists.

Essential Functions

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Ability to perform tasks of standing and walking.
• Normal mobility of fingers, hands, wrists, arms, neck, back, waist, legs, knees, and ankles.

Audio Visual Demands

• Average hearing ability.
• Corrected 20/20 vision.
• Good depth perception.
• Ability to distinguish between colors.

Work Environment

• Noise levels are normal.
• Primarily outdoor work.
• Work inside with or without air conditioning, depending on the facility.
• Work alone or with team members.

Required Training

• First-day orientation - Crossing Guard Training Program.

Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. May involve strenuous walking, standing, climbing; operating a motor vehicle; specific hearing and visual requirements; and responding to violent or extreme physical acts. May work outdoors in varying climates, travel district-wide at odd hours, and work overtime as necessary. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, stand, walk, and drive.
