Job summary

South Washington County Schools seeks a Crossing Guard Paraprofessional at Bailey Elementary School to provide a safe traveling environment for students walking to and from school.

The role supervises crossing at designated crosswalks, assists with patrols, maintains records, and participates in training and meetings. Strong teamwork and confidentiality are essential, with a focus on safety and equity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Competencies as required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833.
• Proven teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervises the safe crossing of students at designated hazardous crosswalks.
• Assist the school principal in the appointment of student school safety patrols.
• Maintain an accurate list of the school safety patrols and provide it to the Transportation Student Safety/Crossing Guard Manager.
• Monitor, document, and offer corrective behavior measures to student patrols and pedestrians.
• Attend all adult crossing guard meetings as required.
• Perform fall and spring evaluations of student school safety patrols.
• Assist with organizing, coordinating and chaperoning events for patrols.
• Maintain and update all school safety patrol equipment.
• Meet quarterly with the school safety patrols.
• Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.
• Maintain a high level of fairness, confidentiality, respect and equity for all.

Highly Qualified Information

This position is eligible for an additional $.50 per hour once Highly Qualified status is achieved (2 or 4 year degree, OR 60 semester credits OR successful completion of the Para Pro which is offered by the district regularly).

POSITION SUMMARY:

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Directly supervises the safe crossing of students at designated hazardous crosswalks.
• Assist the school principal in the appointment of student school safety patrols.
• Maintain an accurate list of the school safety patrols. Provide accurate list to the Transportation Student Safety/Crossing Guard Manager.
• Monitor, document, and offer corrective behavior measures to student school safety patrols and student pedestrians. Report student school safety patrols to the school principal if there are issues and behaviors that cannot be immediately remedied.
• Attend all adult crossing guard meetings as required.
• Perform fall and spring evaluations of student school safety patrols.
• Assist with organizing, coordinating and chaperoning events for student school safety patrols.
• Maintain and update all school safety patrol equipment.
• Meet quarterly with the school safety patrols.
• Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.
• Maintain a high level of fairness, confidentiality, respect and equity for all students, staff and families.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Competencies as required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833.

• Ability to pass Paraprofessional fitness for duty tests.
