Job description

DEFINITION: Under close supervision, assists students with crossing streets safely to and from school for Sunnyside Unified School District.

Essential Functions

Tasks

• Directs students in accordance with traffic signals;
• Directs oncoming traffic in order to safely escort students;
• Places and removes school crossing signs at designated locations to notify motorists of school crossing;
• Monitors student behavior and environment to maintain safety;
• Reports any misbehavior of students;
• Reports traffic violations over speed limit;
• Adheres to regulations and guidelines governing school crossings;
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of traffic regulations pertaining to school and pedestrian crossings.
• Knowledge of traffic control devices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and may require lifting up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to traffic hazards extreme weather conditions and infectious diseases.

Qualifications

• Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
• Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
