Job description

Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure that children cross safely at designated sites.

Scope Of Duties:

• Direct actions of children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police.
• Observe vehicles and pedestrians in the area of school crosswalks to report suspicious activity.
• Notify authorities of uncooperative or abusive children.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance (aim for 2 excused absences per year).
• Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor.
• Provide exceptional customer service to promote a positive image and foster professionalism.

Supervision: Reports to the Field Supervisor; exercises no supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of local geography and important landmarks.
• Ability to analyze situations and report clearly.
• React calmly and quickly in emergencies.
• Good intelligence and emotional stability.
• Tactful interaction with the public, especially children.
• Minimum age: 18 years.
• Physically capable of performing duties in all weather conditions.
• Ability to read, interpret, and communicate in English.
• Attend mandatory School Crossing Guard training.

Tools and Equipment: Stop paddle, reflective vest, whistle, optional items include cell phone, rain gear, gloves, cap, first aid kit, proper winter gear, traffic cones.
