Job summary

Harmony Public Schools is seeking a crossing guard in the Austin area to assist and safeguard students at designated crossings. The role involves coordination with school staff and parents to address safety concerns and maintain crossing equipment.

You will place signs before shifts and remove them afterward, while strictly following district safety guidelines. Candidates should be prepared to work flexible hours, with some nights or weekends possible, and to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient with basic computer operations and office software.

JOB GOAL: Provides safe guard street crossing in school zones for students.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists and safe-guards students at a specific location while crossing the street.
• Collaborates with school administrators, staff, parents, and students regarding students/safety issues.
• Maintains assigned safety equipment and crossing guards.
• May place caution signs at designated points before going on duty and removes signs at the end of shift.
• Follows the school safety guidelines, policy and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
• Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
• Ability to analyze data
• Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
• Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
• Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
• Moderate travel is required.
