Job summary

Suntree Country Club, Inc. is seeking a Cross-Trained Golf Course Specialist to support Golf Course Maintenance. This role develops versatility by rotating through Greensperson, Lead, Assistant Horticulturist, and Spray Technician duties on a busy Florida course.

Expect daily outdoor work on Fri–Mon hours, with a focus on maintaining exceptional playing conditions, safety, and teamwork across maintenance crews. Florida pesticide license prep may be encouraged.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous golf course maintenance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of turf management and irrigation systems.

Cross-Trained Golf Course Specialist

Department: Golf Course Maintenance

Reports To: Golf Course Assistant Superintendents

Working Hours: Friday, Saturday & Sunday & Monday

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Job Type: Full-Time

SUMMARY

The Golf Course Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining exceptional playing conditions while contributing to all aspects of golf course maintenance and presentation. This position is designed to develop a highly skilled, versatile team member through cross-training in multiple specialized disciplines. The Golf Course Maintenance Specialist is expected to become proficient and perform the duties of a Greensperson, Lead, Assistant Horticulturist, and Spray Technician.

ESSENTIAL DUITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
General Golf Course Maintenance
  • Perform daily golf course maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, bunker maintenance, course setup, debris removal, and irrigation repairs.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of golf course equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor turf conditions and report issues related to irrigation, pests, disease, drainage, or equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Follow all safety policies, environmental regulations, and operating procedures.
Cross-Trained Duties/Responsibilities:
Greensperson
  • Perform all putting green maintenance including mowing, rolling, cup changing, moisture management, and hand watering.
  • Monitor green speed, firmness, and overall turf health.
  • Assist with aerification, topdressing, verticutting, and cultural practices.
  • Identify and report signs of stress, disease, insects, or nutrient deficiencies.
Lead
  • Lead assigned crews in daily maintenance activities.
  • Assign work tasks and ensure projects are completed efficiently and to quality standards.
  • Train and mentor new employees.
  • Communicate daily priorities and provide progress updates to supervisors.
  • Ensure proper equipment use and adherence to safety procedures.
Assistant Horticulturist
  • Assist in maintaining landscape beds, ornamental trees, shrubs, and native plant areas.
  • Plant, prune, mulch, weed, fertilize, and irrigate ornamental landscapes.
  • Monitor plant health and identify pest or disease issues.
  • Assist with seasonal landscape enhancements and flower displays.
  • Support environmental stewardship and sustainable landscape practices.
Spray Technician
  • Mix, calibrate, and apply fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and growth regulators according to label requirements and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate application records.
  • Calibrate spray equipment and perform routine maintenance.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local regulations regarding chemical handling, storage, and application.
  • Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures at all times.
  • Monitor turf health and recommend treatment programs when appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in golf course maintenance or groundskeeping preferred.
  • Knowledge of turf management, irrigation systems, and basic landscaping techniques.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Preferred Florida Pesticide License to be obtained within 90 – 120 days of hire.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of turfgrass management, landscaping, irrigation, drainage systems, and integrated pest management practices.
  • Knowledge of fertilizers, chemicals, and soil conditioners.
  • Knowledge of golf operations and ability to play the game is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Work is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to sun, rain, wind, and extreme temperatures.
  • Exposure to various chemical fumes and noise.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at time.
