Critical Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer, Data Center Field Services Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
Key job responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
- Directly support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
- Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
- Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
- Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
- Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
- Initiate and lead engineering audits including on‑site visits within Amazon’s data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
- Act as resident engineer during new construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Valid and active driver's license.
- 3+ cumulative years of experience with industrial, municipal, or commercial engineering, including data centers, power generation, oil/gas facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Experience as a resident engineer or hands‑on design consultant.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, submittal documents, and applicable building codes.
- Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/mass production.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (e.g., UNIS, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, air‑cooled and water‑cooled chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, fans, air economizers, water treatment).
- Data analytics skills, data querying skills/language, scripting, and comfort working with large amounts of data in evolving environments.
- Experience/knowledge in water chemistry and conventional/membrane water treatment technologies for industrial applications.
- EPMS/SCADA/BMS controls system experience (software and/or hardware).
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: USA, PA, BERWICK - 116,800.00 - 160,000.00 USD annually. The total compensation package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs) and other benefits such as health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
