Job summary

Skybox Critical Operations is seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Subject Matter Expert to provide hands-on technical leadership across our data centre portfolio, ensuring reliable design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mission-critical power infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will mentor technicians, influence engineering standards, and collaborate with operations, construction, and development teams on new builds, expansions, and retrofits.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of electrical systems experience, with ≥5 years in mission-critical environments.
  • Hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium- and low-voltage systems.
  • Ability to read one-line diagrams and follow NFPA/IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority for critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, test, commission, and maintain electrical systems.

As we continue to expand our operations, we're searching for a skilled Critical Facility Engineer – Electrical SME to join our team.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Subject Matter Expert to provide hands‑on technical leadership across our data centre portfolio. This role combines deep electrical engineering expertise with practical field experience to ensure the reliable design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mission‑critical power infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings both the technical depth to troubleshoot complex electrical systems and the practical experience to mentor technicians and influence engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Hands‑On Execution
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for electrical infrastructure including medium‑and‑high‑voltage distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, backup generation, and critical power distribution
  • Perform hands‑on troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems
  • Lead root cause analysis for electrical failures and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs
Design Review & Standards Development
  • Review and evaluate electrical designs from consultants and contractors for compliance with specifications, codes, and best practices
  • Identify design risks, constructability concerns, and optimization opportunities
  • Establish and maintain electrical engineering standards, specifications, and technical governance processes
  • Participate in value engineering and technical design reviews
Project Support & Collaboration
  • Support electrical aspects of new construction, expansions, and retrofit projects from planning through commissioning and turnover
  • Coordinate with utility providers on interconnections, substations, and service upgrades
  • Collaborate with operations, construction, and development teams to drive project objectives
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to facilities technicians and junior engineers
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of experiencein electrical systems with at least 5 years in mission‑critical environments (data centres, hospitals, industrial facilities, or similar)
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experiencewith installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of:
    • Medium‑voltage distribution (15kV–35kV class)
    • Low-voltage switchgear and distribution(480v)
    • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
    • Automatic transfer switches (ATS) and static transfer switches (STS)
    • Power monitoring and control systems
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting one‑line diagrams, schematics, and control wiring diagrams
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 110, and IEEE standards applicable to critical power systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection coordination, fault current analysis, and arc flash studies
  • Experience with commissioning and acceptance testing procedures (NETA standards preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
  • NFPA 70E Qualified Electrical Worker certification
  • NETA or NICET certification in electrical testing
  • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centre environments
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and SCADA/EPMS platforms
  • Experience developing training programs and standard operating procedures
  • Background in electrical reliability engineering or predictive maintenance technologies (thermography, power quality analysis, partial discharge testing)
