Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Chicago seeks a Critical Care Veterinary Technician to join our emergency team. The ideal candidate enjoys fast-paced environments and is skilled in patient care and client education.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; previous Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant-rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.).
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications, and updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside testing.
