Job summary

Capital Health is seeking a dedicated patient-care professional to join our team as a CNA-level role supporting RN staff. You will provide essential personal care, assist with safe transfers, monitor vital signs, and help with nutrition and documentation in a fast-paced clinical unit.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma, 1 year of EMT/military medic/PCA experience, and AHA BLS. CNA certification is preferred; non-certified applicants may complete Capital Health UAP training within

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Experience: One year prior experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA in an acute care or equivalent skill in long-term care setting, completion of a medical assistant program, or successful completion of two clinical semesters of an accredited nursing school.
  • Other Credentials: AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period
  • Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.
  • Special Training: Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred. In lieu of CNA certification, successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.
  • Usual Work Day: 8 Hours

Responsibilities

  • Provides for safety aspects of patient care (assists with patient restraints, uses correct transfer techniques, follows falls precautions, responds appropriately to emergency situations).
  • Provides personal care (bathing, mouth care, evening care, incontinence care to patients under the direction of the RN).
  • Applies basic dressings, slings, splints, antiembolism stockings under the direction of the RN.
  • Collects specimens such as stool, urine and sputum on a timely basis.
  • Empties and cleans ostomy and other device bags; records intake and output per unit standards.
  • Provides for nutrition of patients; feeds, monitors tube feedings, delivers nourishment and counts calories timely and accurately.
  • Makes pertinent observations about patients and reports findings to RN.
  • Assists with CPR under the direction/supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.
  • Performs Phlebotomy, glucometer testing, and EKGs as directed; takes vital signs as trained.
  • Stocks supplies and maintains a clean, organized environment; supports unit needs and reports equipment issues.
  • Notifies clinical equipment and charge nurse of any malfunctioning defibrillator.
