Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited School of Respiratory Therapy with credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapist with eighteen months to obtain RRT credential.
• Cross training in other department may require additional certification and training.
• Current CT license is a requirement.

Responsibilities

• Reviews physician orders prior to administering modalities and contacts clinicians for clarification as needed.
• Performs patient assessment before and after therapies per established policies.
• Administers respiratory care modalities and documents patient response.
• Evaluates patient responses and refers unusual/adverse reactions for further intervention.
• Participates in patient/family education on therapy goals and equipment use.
• Gathers data for clinical treatment and documents per department policy.
• Operates and troubleshoots respiratory care equipment; applies resuscitative techniques in emergencies.
• Provides respiratory support for patients from NICU to adult transport.
• Cross-trained staff may participate in cardio/pulmonary rehab-related duties.
