Job summary

Child Saving Institute in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking a Crisis Youth Counselor to support youth in a short-term Crisis Stabilization program, providing direct mentorship, supervision, and behavior management.

You will work with a caring team to help youth navigate mental health crises, delivering compassionate care and crisis intervention as part of a holistic approach to wellbeing. Starting pay is $20.00/hour with a Tue-Sat schedule and benefits.

Qualifications

• Meet one of the listed minimum qualifications for crisis support.
• Experience with behavioral or mental health services is required or preferred.
• Demonstrate ability to work with children and families in crisis.

Responsibilities

Starting Pay: $20.00 / Hour

Shifts: Tuesday to Saturday, 10PM - 6AM

Child Saving Institute (CSI) is looking for someone who has a mind full of wonder and a heart-filled desire to make a difference! We're on a mission to champion what's best for each child and family.

As a Crisis Youth Care Specialist, you'll be an essential part of our team. Your responsibilities would include Supervising and Implementing behavior management techniques and de-escalation by providing direct support, mentorship and supervision to the youth in the short-term Crisis Stabilization program. In short, our CSRS Youth Care Specialist will serve as a vital advocate and support system for children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises.

One of the Following 8 Minimum Required Qualifications Must Be Met:

• A mental health professional as defined in Iowa Code section 228.1.
• A bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours or equivalent in a human services field (including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, nursing, education) and at least one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services.
• A law enforcement officer trained in crisis intervention including, but not limited to, mental health first aid and mental health in-service training.
• An emergency medical technician (EMT) trained in crisis intervention including, but not limited to, mental health first aid.
• A peer support specialist with a minimum certification of mental health first aid.
• A family support peer specialist with a minimum certification of mental health first aid.
• A registered nurse with two years of mental or behavioral health experience.
• A bachelor's degree in a non-human services-related field, associate's degree, or high school diploma (or equivalency) with a minimum of two years of experience in behavioral or mental health services, and 30 hours of crisis and mental health in-service training (in addition to the required 30 hours of department-approved training)

• Knowledge of childcare practices, developmental issues, and group process
• Understanding of theory and practices for emotionally dysregulated children
• Ability to handle crises and work with children and youth experiencing emotional or behavioral disorders
