Job summary

Louisville Metro Government is seeking a Victim Services advocate to provide continuum of support for crime victims, from crisis intervention to investigation and judicial processes, within a law enforcement environment.

The role includes emotional, physical, and financial support, access to the justice system, and responding to call-outs for crisis intervention and advocacy services. A Bachelor’s degree is required and an oral exam will be part of the selection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social or Human Services, Psychology or related discipline.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony; misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis.
• Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening.
• Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test.
• Must provide one’s own source of transportation.
• Oral Exam required as part of the selection process.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a first point of contact to victims of crime who experience trauma and provides education on the complexities of the criminal justice process.
• Provides a continuum of victim support from crisis through investigation and judicial processes within a law enforcement environment.
• Provides emotional, physical, and financial support to victims of crime.
• Provide access to the criminal justice system and support agencies.
• Responds to call outs to crime scenes to provide crisis intervention, support and advocacy services.
• Maintains contact and communication with victims and witnesses during the investigation, prosecution, and judicial proceedings.
• Maintains case files with documented case notes and services.
• Responsible for managing client flow and directing victims and witnesses to appropriate staff or agency.
