Job summary

Esperanza United in Twin Cities is seeking a Crisis Response Advocate to support survivors and families by providing bilingual crisis-line coverage, in-person advocacy, and safety planning. You will connect people to housing, medical care, benefits, and immigration relief while collaborating with partners across the Crisis Line and Refugio shelter.

Shift is Monday–Friday 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. and requires strong Spanish/English communication, cultural responsiveness, and independent

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (required).
• Two+ years of advocacy or related experience supporting survivors preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English for crisis-line coverage.

Responsibilities

• Crisis Line Support: Answer 24-hour bilingual crisis and business calls with trauma-informed intervention and supportive listening.
• Direct Advocacy & Response: Provide in-person crisis response, safety planning, and advocacy at hospitals, law enforcement, and courts.
• Court & Legal Assistance: Help survivors file Orders of Protection and attend hearings as needed.
• Community Navigation: Connect families to housing, medical care, benefits, and immigration relief.
• System Intervention: Advocate with police, medical professionals, and other partners.
• Documentation & Training: Maintain accurate records and participate in ongoing training.

As a Crisis Response Advocate, you will help survivors and their children identify options, strengthen safety, and connect with resources that support their goals.

Working Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., you will provide bilingual crisis-line coverage, in-person advocacy, safety planning, resource navigation, and direct support to community participants.

You will collaborate with colleagues and community partners to ensure responsive services across the Crisis Line, Refugio residential shelter, and other Family Advocacy initiatives.

What You'll Do

• Crisis Line Support: Answer 24-hour bilingual crisis and business calls, offering trauma-informed intervention and supportive listening.
• Direct Advocacy & Response: Provide in-person crisis response, safety planning, and advocacy at hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and courts.
• Court & Legal Assistance: Help survivors file Orders of Protection and accompany them to legal hearings or appointments as needed. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
• Community Navigation: Connect families to vital resources including housing, medical care, public benefits, and immigration relief.
• System Intervention: Advocate directly on behalf of survivors with police, medical professionals, and other community partners.
• Documentation & Training: Maintain accurate, timely records and participate in ongoing professional development and team training.

What You'll Bring

Education and Experience

• High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two or more years of advocacy or related experience supporting survivors is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication in Spanish and English.
• Familiarity with Latine communities in the Twin Cities and the ability to provide culturally responsive support to individuals and families.
• Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics is preferred.
• Ability to listen attentively, navigate conflict, and make sound decisions independently.
• Ability to organize multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• Comfort using computers and other technology to communicate, document services, and complete work.
• Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and adequate automobile insurance for participant transportation and travel to meetings, events, and service locations.
