Job summary

Deschutes County Health Services, Behavioral Health, seeks a Peer Support Specialist for the 24/7 Crisis Program. The role supports crisis and substance use recovery, engages with treatment resources, answers after-hours calls, and assists with program operations across DCSC and community settings.

The position emphasizes peer-delivered services, self-determination, and empowerment, drawing on lived experience to motivate others while ensuring documentation and compliance requirements are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must complete a certified peer support specialist training program within four months of hire.
• Self-identified person in recovery or family member of someone in recovery preferred.
• Experience navigating substance abuse and/or mental health treatment systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients in developing resiliency and recovery perspectives.
• Model personal responsibility and self-care.
• Teach coping and life skills to clients.
• Share personal recovery experiences when appropriate.
• Maintain professional boundaries and relationships with clients.
• Support wellness and program operations for DCSC.
