Job summary

GBMC is seeking a Crisis Assessment Clinician to provide emergency psychiatric services to adults and children in the ED, conducting comprehensive assessments and coordinating crisis care with a multidisciplinary team.

The role supports per diem scheduling and involves a mix of weekday and weekend shifts, with a focus on safe, patient-centered care and adherence to legal and organizational standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree and licensure eligibility (LCSW-C or LCPC).
• 1 year or more emergency department or urgent care experience with acute mental illness.
• Experience using evidence-based practices in mental health and substance use.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including mental status exams, diagnosis summaries, and level-of-care recommendations.
• Develop individualized care and disposition plans in collaboration with the ED team, implementing crisis intervention and short-term counseling.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment to support crisis stabilization and mobilize resources for patients, families, and staff.
• Coordinate aftercare and mandated reporting with physicians, care teams, patients, families, and community agencies.
• Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
• Apply culturally competent practices to deliver patient-centered care responsive to demographic and ethnic needs.
• Engage in continuing education and participate in process improvement initiatives.
