Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Special Assistant Attorney General to prosecute criminal cases involving SCDC nexus across the state, coordinating with the Attorney General's Office and managing a personal caseload. You will provide legal advice on search warrants and evidence and support agency colleagues in criminal matters.

A J.D. or equivalent and SC Bar membership are required, with prosecutorial experience preferred.

Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent and at least two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Active membership in the South Carolina Bar in good standing.
• Must have satisfied the 403 Requirements.
• Prosecutorial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute criminal cases with SCDC nexus before the state grand jury and in circuits across the state.
• Provide legal advice on search warrants, evidence, and related issues.
• Draft legislation and regulations as needed.
• Respond after hours for serious crime scenes and emergencies to provide legal guidance.
• Assist in coordinating between the solicitor’s offices, the AG's office, and agency personnel.
