Job summary

Iowa State University in Ames, IA invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. This 9-month position begins August 16, 2027, with emphasis on emerging technologies in criminal justice, including AI, digital forensics, and surveillance as used in policing and courts.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in criminal justice, develop a nationally recognized research program, contribute to the department, and seek external funding

Qualifications

• PhD in Criminology/Criminal Justice by start date.
• Evidence of high quality, peer-reviewed publications in criminology/criminal justice.
• Expertise in emerging technologies in criminal justice (AI, digital forensics, surveillance).
• Record of highly effective undergraduate teaching with evaluations.
• Potential to secure external funding from federal/state agencies, private sector, and/or foundations.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in criminal justice (in-person, hybrid, or online).
• Develop and maintain a nationally recognized research program.
• Contribute service to the department and broader discipline; pursue external funding.
