Duties

During their careers, special agents perform investigations and protection duties, often being assigned to multiple locations across the U.S. and abroad. Responsibilities include:

1. Providing protection for various protectees.
2. Conducting criminal investigations related to the financial obligations of the United States.
3. Planning and implementing security arrangements for National Special Security Events.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Possess a current valid driver's license.
• Carry and use a firearm; maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
• Be at least 21 years old at application and less than 37 at the time of receiving a conditional job offer, unless prior federal law enforcement service applies. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer before age 40 to continue.
• Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
• Have uncorrected visual acuity no worse than 20/100 binocular and corrected acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
• Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear in specified frequency ranges.
• Undergo a drug test before appointment and random testing during employment.
• Complete 13 weeks of intensive training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
• Sign a mobility agreement willing to accept assignments nationwide and abroad.
• Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt, if applicable.
