Job summary

The Columbus Consolidated Government is seeking a dedicated investigator to conduct internal and external criminal investigations for incidents within the Sheriff’s Department. The role covers crimes against local businesses and a broad range of offenses, including high-risk warrants and narcotics-related cases.

Candidates will interview witnesses, operate investigative tools, and may perform dignitary protection or building security duties, with additional related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws.
• Knowledge of laws governing arrests, search and seizure, and warrants.
• Knowledge of court procedures and civil processes.
• Knowledge of investigative tools and techniques.
• Knowledge of arrest warrant procedures.
• Knowledge of GCIC and NCIC rules and regulations.
• Skill in interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects.
• Skill in operating the Computer Voice Stress Analyzer.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships.
• Skill in planning, organizing, problem-solving and decision-making.
• Skill in using office equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Conduct internal and external criminal investigations for incidents within the Sheriff’s Department.
• Investigate crimes against local businesses and a variety of offenses including assaults, thefts, identity theft and sex crimes.
• Execute high-risk search warrants and high-risk arrest warrants.
• Lead special investigations involving mid- to upper-level narcotics dealers.
• Conduct interviews using the Computer Voice Stress Analyzer.
• Perform special details such as dignitary protection or building security.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
