• Receives, inventories, and records physical evidence submitted to the Forensic Laboratory, maintaining strict legal accountability and custody of physical evidence to ensure its court admissibility.
• Disseminates evidence to laboratory personnel for analysis, performs inventory of items, and identifies items ready for return or destruction.
• Records and maintains information in the Laboratory Information Management System to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with federal and state laws, as well as international accreditation standards.
• Performs specimen processing, including accessioning, storage, preparation, and mailing for external testing.
• Corresponds with law enforcement agencies regarding the status of examinations and other analytical work to confirm that requests are appropriate based on potential charges.
• Testifies as an expert witness in depositions and criminal trials.
• Provides training and technical guidance to law enforcement agencies to improve their knowledge and skills in evidence handling procedures and examination requests.
• Identifies, prepares, and processes the destruction of physical evidence in accordance with state and laboratory guidelines.

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of State Police, Forensic Laboratory, has a part-time vacancy for a Criminal Evidence Technician, SOC Title 19-4090 MISC LFE-PHY-SOC SC-1. This position is part-time, cannot exceed 29.5 hours per week and does not offer health insurance benefits.

Summary

Coordinate the submission, secure storage, meticulous tracking, and final disposition of physical evidence within the forensic laboratory, supporting criminal investigations. Provide expert testimony in criminal trials.

Your Experience Counts

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education or experience must be in laboratory analysis, forensic methodologies, data analysis, criminal investigations, biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, forensic science, criminal justice or a related field.

License/Certification

Valid driver’s license and access to transportation

Other Requirements

Must pass a comprehensive background check in addition to a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check.
