The Maricopa County Office of the Legal Defender is seeking an Attorney I in the Early Disposition Court to represent indigent clients charged with criminal felonies. You will provide representation through all stages from initial appearance to sentencing, diversion, or dismissal, including hearings and negotiations.

This recruitment fills two tier I vacancies; compensation will be based on education and experience, with tier I range $82,250 to $135,250.

Qualifikationen

• Juris Doctor (JD) or Doctor of Jurisprudence from an ABA-approved law school.
• License to practice law and active good standing with the State Bar of Arizona.

Aufgaben

• Appear in court representing clients at scheduled hearings and trials.
• Present oral arguments as appropriate in support of clients’ legal interests.
• Negotiate deals and resolutions with State attorneys on behalf of clients.
• Research facts and analyze legal issues using research tools.
• Composes motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Prepare cases for court.
• Review evidence on- and off-site.
• Discuss and present analyses of legal issues to clients and court personnel.
• Communicate in person and by phone with clients, opposing counsel, colleagues, and others.
• Travel to courts, jails, detention centers, and correctional facilities to effectively represent clients.
• Attend Continuing Legal Education seminars
