Macomb County is seeking a Staff Attorney I to provide legal services for indigent defendants in criminal matters, including arraignments and trial representation. The role supports the county’s system for court-appointed counsel and ensures compliance with constitutional standards and MIDC guidelines.

The position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) with an 8:00am start, exempt status, and benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage from day one.

Formación

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university
• Current membership in the State Bar of Michigan
• Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license, operable automobile, and insurance
• Preferred experience in civil or criminal law

Responsabilidades

• Represent indigent defendants in trial related proceedings, probation violations, and extradition hearings
• Maintain communication with courts, court staff, clients, witnesses, experts, and investigators
• Maintain office schedules, and coordinate meetings with clients, investigators, and experts
• Represent indigent clients through jury trial
• Negotiate pleas/dispositions with prosecutors consistent with constitutional and applicable rules
